A Word to the Not-So-Wise

Askimet has blocked over 72,000 spam comments to my blog so far. Maybe I should let them through so that I could create more Snarks ‘R Us posts like this one. Spam-Bam was a great series, wasn’t it, and I managed to keep it going for almost two years – but it seems that these days even the spammers have forsaken me. Oh well. Re-blogs are better than no blogs, right?

I’ve been so busy with the new puppy that I simply haven’t had the time to respond to all the wonderful comments on my posts.

But today, I was feeling a little down, seeing as WordPress indicated that I had absolutely no views on any of my posts. Well, that can’t possibly be true, so onto my dashboard I went. And guess what? There were numerous comments on various posts which I had not seen before (the comments, that is, not the posts – thank you, grammar police).

Well, obviously someone is reading, right? — and I’d like to respond to a few of those comments if I may. After all, spammers are people, too. (And apologies to the appropriate commenter if any of these weren’t, in fact, spam.)

Day 2

Please join me in welcoming a brand new blogger. Anyone who’s ever had to restart a career after 15 or 20 years will appreciate how hard it can be. (My regular readers will recall that I went through much the same thing this past year.) I believe some emotional support is called for right now – let’s show this up-and-coming blogger what our community is all about.

Today was my second day back in private practice. Needless to say, my head is spinning. After over a decade and a half of the same routine of being a solo practitioner with one client that provided steady and predictable work, I feel like a fish out of water.

Billable hours. Finding work to do. Finding new clients. Remembering how to do things that were second nature before you went in-house. Document management. Working for a small company instead of a big one. Being one of many lawyers instead of the only one. Locking yourself out of the garage because you didn’t know that you needed the swipe card to get in and out. Having lunch delivered because you don’t have time go to get lunch.

EVER WONDER WHAT YOUR PETS DO WHEN YOU’RE NOT HOME?

Well, apparently Anne Belov’s cat, Mehitabel, and my dog, Cody, have been getting into some serious shenanigans, even though they live at opposite ends of the good old USA. I came home from one of my Remicade treatments and caught my Cody in the act of hijacking this website!
