Even More Love!

versatileblogger11The awards are piling up! I feel so special.

Vicky V of vsomethingspeaks has nominated me for the Versatile Blogger Award. Unlike my alter-ego, Not CM, I am happy to accept.

The rules are:

_________

If you are nominated, you’ve been awarded the Versatile Blogger award.

  •  Thank the person who gave you this award. That’s common courtesy.
  •  Include a link to their blog. That’s also common courtesy — if you can figure out how to do it.
  •  Next, select 15 blogs/bloggers that you’ve recently discovered or follow regularly. ( I would add, pick blogs or bloggers that are excellent!)
  •  Nominate those 15 bloggers for the Versatile Blogger Award — you might include a link to this site.
  •  Finally, tell the person who nominated you 7 things about yourself.

__________

The first two items have been done (see above). I’ll leave the nominations for last because I need to think a bit on that.

As for the seven things about myself (and thank heavens, they don’t all need to be positive things!):

1.  I found out just yesterday that even at my advanced age, I can pull an all-nighter and still function the next day.  Daughter #2 fell on black ice and broke her wrist, calling me for a ride to the emergency room (if you’re a parent, you’ll know how I felt when the phone rang at 2:30 a.m.).  She’ll need surgery, but otherwise she’s fine.

2.  I’m beginning to have trouble driving at night – but let’s not tell anyone who needs a ride to the emergency room at 2:30 a.m., ok?

3.  Along those same lines, I discovered last weekend that I can still manage to walk around a public event without collapsing from exhaustion after the first 15 minutes.  Daughter #3 and I attended a weekend home show, which included …. wine tasting!  Not only was I able to stay on my aging feet, I was able to do so even after numerous tastes of New York State wine.  Yay!  (And thank heavens there was no black ice that day.)

4.  I’m shorter now than I was 5 years ago – but still taller than the looney tunes neighbor, who tries to appear taller by bouncing up on the balls of his feet and waving his arms around while screaming expletives at people who disagree with him (read that story here).

5.  Plans are firming up for the upcoming meet-and-greets with other bloggers.  One will require an out-of-town trip.  I am so excited!  (No, I’m still not telling you who or when – you’ll just have to keep coming back.)

6.  I’m playing with the idea of setting up a line of Cordelia’s Mom merchandise, possibly including Puppy Cody stuff.  I might even collaborate with Not CM.  Aren’t you all just dying to get a CookieCakes’ coffee mug?

7.  Still waiting for that ship to come in.  I’m sure it’s just a matter of time.

Wasn’t that fun? Seven (count ‘em) items that say absolutely nothing of any significance.  I love it!

Now for the hard part. Too many of my favorite blogs have become “no awards” blogs.  And of those that accept awards, most of them already have received the Versatile Blogger Award.

Having said that, here are my nominations, in alphabetical order after Paul Curran, who of course is always #1 (and again, there is no obligation to accept – consider the nomination as my way of honoring you):

When You “Hate” Your Kids

Having survived my kids’ entire childhood and teenage years, I can really relate to this post. So many parents are afraid to admit that there are ever times when they don’t absolutely adore their offspring. My kids were experts at pushing buttons, usually when my defenses were down to begin with. Did I love them with all my heart? Of course. But were there times I [almost] wished they would be taken away from me and spirited off to that Perfect Other Family? Afraid so.

Enjoy this re-blog!

Cooling My Heels in the Auto Service Department

My how time flies! I first wrote this post in April, 2014, and then purchased a new vehicle in July, 2014. Probably could have saved my money (and time) on the oil change and inspection had I thought ahead just a little bit!

cordeliasmom2012's avatarCordelia's Mom, Still

BlueJaguarI’m writing this post while waiting for my car to be inspected, the oil changed, the tires rotated, and having it realigned (damn potholes!).   While waiting, I’m doing a bit of people watching.

***

A gentleman who looks to be in his mid-30s to early 40s just walked in, using a cane.  Why is it that a man using a cane looks debonair, while a woman the same age would simply look decrepit leaning on a cane?

***

I  can immediately spot those customers who have been here since the service department opened this morning.  They’re the ones with multiple empty coffee cups and struggling to appear that they are not, in fact, falling asleep.  How embarrassing would that be?  Just imagine it:

SERVICE ADVISOR:  CookieCakes, your car is done.

Feeling the Love!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Sometimes when you least expect it, and when you need it most, someone does something nice for you.

This was the case earlier this week when I was feeling just a bit down after having checked my stats and realized that although my follower number is increasing, my Google Page rank had dropped significantly (I’d like to think it’s only because so many people are paying more attention to political sites these days.)

Miranda Sings AwardAnyway, suddenly a ping-back notice appeared, and I always check ping-backs.  Imagine my delight to learn that Laura from Riddle In The Middle had nominated me for The Miranda Sings Award, created by Claudia’s Thoughts!

I’m honored to accept (Thank you, Laura!), and will do my best to comply with the rules, which are:

1. Announce the award with a post and link the blogger who nominated you.

2. Include the featured image on your blog post.

3. Nominate 10 bloggers (or as many as you can think of) and link your awardees in the post.

4. List 7 things you love about yourself (eg. appearance, personality, achievements, etc.).

5. Describe yourself in a positive manner. Don’t use negative connotations.

So here goes.  I’ve already complied with #1 and #2.  I’ll leave #3 for the end because I need to think on that a bit.

Rules #4 and #5 are probably the most difficult for someone like me.  I seldom give any personal information about myself, and considering that I have created Not CM, the evil alter-ego, it’s going to be hard to avoid negative connotations.  But I’ll try.

Seven [positive] things about me:

♥  While I used to dread growing old, I find that being within a year or two of retirement, I’m now actually enjoying the freedom of being a senior citizen.  I can wear whatever I want, go out or stay in as I please (well, except for having to spend time at work, still), and if I accidentally say something somewhat inappropriate, people just attribute it to oncoming senility.

♥  I am an animal lover.  If I could do anything in this life that I wished, it would be to have enough land to take in everyone else’s unwanted pets.  I have experience with fish, turtles, gerbils, guinea pigs, hamsters and dogs.  While I’ve never had a cat, I’m sure I could learn.  I might, however, draw the line at snakes and tarantulas.

♥  I love meeting other bloggers!  So far I have personally dined with the Grumpy Old Dude from Archon’s Den and with Amy Rose of Petals Unfolding.  Plans are currently in the works for meetings with three other bloggers (no, I’m not saying who or when – you’ll just have to wait for the posts!).  If I had enough money, I would travel the world and meet every one of you, but alas, my funds are limited.  (Anyone want to start a Go Fund Me for Cordelia’s Mom’s international travels?  🙂 )

♥  My eyes are green.  You can’t tell that from the About page.  Just in case you were wondering.

♥  I’m a better driver than I pretend to be when writing posts.  I know that any of you living in the Western New York area are especially glad to hear that and will now freely embark from home without first Googling “Where is Cordelia’s Mom right now?”

GOT WINE?

♥  I have recently discovered that, due to my ongoing Remicade treatments, I can again eat moderate amounts of chocolate!  And drink a glass or so of wine each day!  Life. Is. Good!!

♥  My photography is steadily improving (but don’t judge by the images in this post!).  It’s amazing what you can teach yourself if you really have an interest.  Same with writing.  Lesson learned?  Never, ever give up a dream.  Put it on hold for awhile if you have to, but never lose hope of obtaining it.

And now for the part that everyone has been waiting for (you can stop skimming now).

My nominees for The Miranda Sings Award are as follows. With the exception of the first one (who probably has more followers than any of us, even though he doesn’t own a blog himself!), I’m limiting nominations to blogs with less than 1,000 followers (according to WordPress), to bring attention to them.

[NOTE TO NOMINEES – CONSIDER THIS AS MY WAY OF HONORING YOU.  THERE IS NO OBLIGATION TO ACCEPT.)

  1. Paul Curran of Julie No Blog (Please hold your applause until th end.  Thank you.)
  2. Pensitivity101
  3. Typical Tracy
  4. Roamin’ Gnomials
  5. Daddy Come Lately
  6. New Bloggy Cat
  7. Get Off My Lawn
  8. Just Plain Ol’ Vic
  9. Social Bridge
  10. In the Zone

Wasn’t that fun?  Now it’s your turn.
