Everything’s Ducky

“How’s your life these day, CookieCakes?”

Why, thank you, so kind of you to ask.

I just finished my fourth week at my new job – yay! Trust me, there was more than one day when I didn’t think I would make it this far.  In the first couple of weeks, I made quite a few rookie mistakes which led me, and everyone else, to doubt my abilities.  I think I was so scared of doing something wrong that I froze and then did exactly what I was hoping not to do!

But I’m finally settling in and feeling confident.  My co-workers are wonderful, and the work is manageable; the drive is easy; and the salary is enough to keep the bills paid.  Win-win all around.

Of course, now that I’m working five days a week instead of four like I did previously, I only have weekends to do all that other stuff I enjoy, like photography.  (Sure, I can take pictures at home in the evenings, but between exhaustion and wine, they sometimes don’t turn out too well – and does anyone really want to see multiple photographs of my kitchen table or Cody lying on the couch?).

The good news, however, is that while hubby is not at all interested in my blog, he does like spending time in scenic locations and has offered to accompany me on weekend photo shoots – often followed by dinner out, or at least takeout from our favorite restaurant.  Double yay!  So you all can hopefully look forward to some nice fall and winter shots now that I have a feel for my camera and the software that came with it (um I have advanced, right?).

Thanks very much to Dan Antion, whose comment on my Flickr.com photo gave me the inspiration for this post.  Check out Dan’s blog here, and his photography on Flickr. com here.  You’ll be glad you did!

She’s Back!

cordelia

After a year’s absence from blogging, and several years of overwhelming personal stress, Cordelia has finally returned to the blogosphere.  Yay!  I know I missed her.

Check out her newest post and help me welcome her back: http://www.cordeliacallsitquits.com/back/

(Sorry, I can’t re-blog it because she’s no longer on WordPress, but it’s well worth clicking over to her site.  You’ll be glad you did.  She’s a much better writer than I am.)

Arising From the Ashes of Credit Card Debt (Re-Blog)

It’s been two years since I wrote this post, and I’m happy to say I have not fallen back into the credit card trap (I even paid off that furniture within the first year). Good thing, too, because by keeping my finances in order, my recent job loss and drop in income were not as devastating as they could have been. Yay me!

SillyCatMy new bedroom furniture arrived today.  While new furniture is generally a happy occasion for most people, for me it is especially exciting because I was able to finance it over a two-year period at Zero Percent Interest!

I suppose some background information is in order.  From the early 1980s to early 2000s, I relied heavily on credit cards in order to raise my three kids and maintain my home.  We didn’t live extravagantly, but it just seemed that someone always needed shoes, someone needed medical care, or the house needed some kind of repair.  And, of course, there was additional stuff like parts falling off cars or tires needing replacement.  We were living paycheck to paycheck, and that credit was just so easy to get – I think at one point I had almost every major credit card on the market.

Somehow I managed to meet the minimum monthly…
