What To Do On My Summer Vacation?

Beach

How long has it been since I’ve had a real vacation? Hmm, let me think …

Five years ago, I was in the hospital for ten days and off work for three weeks. Nope, not a vacation.

Four years ago, I was taken by ambulance to the hospital after reacting to a new prescription medication.  I was admitted, transfused (twice), stayed overnight and took a few days off work.  Definitely not a vacation.

Two years ago, I broke my foot and was off work for one week. Also, not a vacation.

Last year, I was off work for just over a week while the household renovations were completed. Toss up – it was hell while the work was being done, but I had a very nice house after.  And at least I wasn’t at work getting screamed at every day, but the boss was pissed that I took the time off.

Still not a vacation as most people envision one.

Dropping down to a four-day work week helped some, even though many of the off days were for medical treatments and doctors’ appointments, and even though I was never allowed to take both a Friday and the following Monday off, so no long weekends.

In order to save my sanity, I asked my new employer to let me have a couple of weeks to rejuvenate between jobs. Lord knows I need it.

What will I do with all that time? How the hell should I know.  I no longer understand what vacations are all about, but I’m certainly going to try not to waste this valuable free time.

First off – sleep for about three days.

And I downloaded a bunch of videogames, so that should take up another few days.

I can’t really afford to go anywhere or do anything expensive, so staycation it is – but that doesn’t mean I can’t have fun, right?

So, the plan is – after sleeping and playing videogames, I will get my arse out the door and do some photography, either alone or with Teddy Rosalie, and maybe with a family member or two.

Maybe I’ll give myself a mini-wine tour (Wine, and a chance to do some photography! Win-win!)

At least one lunch or dinner out is a must. You really can’t have a vacation without eating out.

Which brings me to the point of today’s post.

If anyone within a 100-mile radius of Buffalo, New York* would like to meet me for a quick lunch or even just a coffee, shoot me an email. There are many of you I haven’t yet met, and as we all know, meet-and-greets make great blog posts!

I have my calendar at my fingertips.  Help me fill it in!

‘Cause if nothing else, in just a few weeks, I’d like to do a post (maybe even a short series) entitled “What I Did On My Summer Vacation” – and I don’t want it to be boring.

*Note, however, that because of Psycho Dad, my volatile toll-collecting, cop-wannabe neighbor, I still won’t go across the international bridges. Best not to push those buttons if I don’t have to.

Hi – congrats on the job and if we come to town in the next two weeks I will email you (there is a slight chance) – anyhow, congrats again and yes – hugs do count – and God is kind and I think the “religious ones” are sometimes “off” = not to get into semantics – but oh those overly religious ones….
    anyhow, congrats and ttyl

  8. We are just a bit too far. Almost. When I was younger, I’d have hopped in the car and done it just for the fun … Alas, I’m a medical basket case too these days. But if you feel like hiking down to New England, the caterpillars are gone and we’e got lots of room.

I’m all upset about the bridges seeing as they mean so much to me. Pity you can’t cross a few in Ireland.
    Main thing is RELAX.
