FURLOUGHED: Week Two

This post is a day early, because I’m taking tomorrow off.

From what, you say?  Aren’t you furloughed from your job?

Yes, I am, but hubby finally got leave from his [non]-“essential” job, and will be home starting tomorrow.  One less person I have to worry about, although I’m sure he’ll annoy the heck out of me.  I’m not sure husbands and wives were really meant to be together 24/7, but probably better than the alternative during a COVID-19 pandemic.

At least, we’ll also no longer have to worry that he’ll bring the virus home from work to immunocompromised me, and believe me, that’s a good thing.

I suppose having another person in the house won’t be horrible.  It’s been rather lonely here, since I can’t comfortably go out on photo shoots, nor can I comfortably chat over the fence with my good neighbors.  And just when I finally got good neighbors!

Recently, I told someone I was so frustrated as a photographer that I was about ready to take pictures of the mud in my backyard.  So, here it is:

April Showers Bring … Mud!

However, I also noticed a lovely view through the fence knothole.  I hear creativity is good in photography.

Meanwhile, Puppy Cody was out patrolling for bunnies and squirrels (none to be found), when she heard that sound that all dogs know, and apparently hate – a UPS truck!

Everyone Else Is In Lockdown

Cody immediately went on alert:

Then began barking to let the poor delivery driver know that he was not to come to our house and should best be on his way asap:

Not that UPS drivers pay all that much attention to dogs, but she doesn’t know that.  The delivery was made – to the house across the street – and that upsetting truck went on its way.

Cody followed me into the house for her lunch, but couldn’t resist one last menacing stare:

Stay home, stay safe, stay healthy.  “See” you all next week.

How does Cody know UPS wasn’t bringing her a present? Foolish dog! Our two think everyone who comes here is doing it to play with them. They still bark like maniacs of course. But then they do that even if there’s no reason to: spontaneous barking.
You can wrench that fence board with the hole out and carry it with you to make interesting pictures everywhere. Or (wait for it) … knot.

Love the pictures of Cody, especially through the fence. I give you a week, and your post should be fun to see how you and hubby do. Mine has been home for three weeks now. The first week was not great…the second week, I wanted to kill him. I gave him a long handled grabber to pick up sticks outside, he broke it. Gave him a cobweb brush to clean the corners of the rooms, he broke it. Asked him to support me on a ladder trying to change a ceiling fixture bulb and he pushed me too hard and almost went over the top of the ladder.
Now we make sure we have alone time and separate space. Keep safe.

    • The good news is (which hasn’t been good news for the last two years): we never finished painting the interior of the house after we moved in, nor did we manage to paint the porches outside. Hubby will have plenty to do.

  4. Duke has a whole “thing” about trucks in the driveway. Also, he is forever protecting us from The Dog Next Door. He can’t seem to understand that yes, they have a dog, and no, they aren’t going to get rid of it because he barks. He also wants the squirrels, but so far, the glass doors have kept in inside. Phew. Stay healthy!!!

    • We have the Dog Across the Street and Two Doors Down, but Cody can see it through the upstairs window. I figure barking at each other keeps them both occupied. The squirrels are just a royal pain in the butt – if only one would come down to play occasionally …

Hang in there CM. Cody looks pretty good on alert status. I hope you guys figure out 24/7 together.

    • We’ll manage. I already told hubby if he annoys me too much, we can convert the unheated garage into a bedroom. But there are lots of household projects he wasn’t able to get to while working full-time, so I think he’ll manage to keep himself busy.

My dog barks with joy when she hears UPS because along with packages the drivers often have treats.

In the son’s shop, half the parts are for essential industries, and half aren’t, so half the workers were given an option. Since the wife and I are both over 70, and she is already asthmatic, he used the excuse to take some time off. This too shall pass. 😀

Great photo session, CM. You make the most out of what the day allows you.
I’m glad to hear your hubby will now be safe at home as well. Our New York areas really are feeling the spread, so the more distancing, the better.

Dogs are awesome — she has to alert you and potentially save you from the bad hoomans with the scary boxes 🙂 My dog needs to sniff what the bad hoomans bring.
Photo through the hole is quite good. You could do a study of four seasons.

    • A study of the four seasons, taken through the knothole, is an excellent idea, Joey. Thanks.

As for Cody, she thinks she’s a bad ass because every time she barks at the mail carrier, he/she turns around and goes onto the next house. Sure, it’s her barking that makes that person go away so quickly.
