A new year is upon us, and the spammers continue to outdo each other. Here’s just a sampling of the current fare:

Response:
The above comment went on in the same vein for hundreds of lines. You’re a little confused, aren’t you?

Comment:
“And pretty much anything he wants seems disturbingly possible.”
Response:
I was going to just delete this spam comment, but the fact that it was written on my Have You Been Chosen? post just tickles me for some reason.

Comment:
“Nice Blog, thanks for sharing this kind of information.”
Response:
Nice comment, isn’t it? And I would have enjoyed it, had it not been written on at least 20 different posts over a 2-day period. Way to go, spammer – nothing like overkill!

Comment:
“You are my inhalation , I possess few blogs and often run out from to brand.”
Response:
You are my sunshine inhalation, my only sunshine inhalation. You make me happy when skies are gray spammers breath … please don’t take my sunshine inhalation away.

Response:
I think you wasted your money.

“I’ll be there for you.”
Response:
Aw. Just aw. One can never have too much spammer support.

This month, I had more [really good] spam comments than I can use for this particular post, so I will save them for February – and I’m sure I’ll have many more by then. I can hardly wait!
(As usual, apologies to the appropriate commenter if any of the foregoing weren’t, in fact, spam. I realize that some comments suffer in translation, and I try to take that into account when determining what is spam and what is legitimate.)

I saw someone who says they edit the comments to something that sounds real or funny or adds to the discussion and makes them visible. I have not yet done this but some of the examples were hysterical!

I’ve never edited any comments on my post, although I do sometimes use only excerpts for the spam-bam series. For my regular posts, I figure people are entitled to say whatever they want. I don’t think I’ve ever even deleted an objectionable comment.

I agree! I have learned a lot from dissenters.

Last night, before I went to bed, I went to see how many spam comments I had and there were 256! 256! I usually go through them one by one just to see if maybe a legit comment got caught by the spam filter, but last night I just removed all spam with one click. No way I was going through 256 items just in case there was one that wasn’t spam. Ugh.

I hear you. I only look at every single one because I’m doing the spam-bam series. It’s not as time-consuming as you would think – most of the comments are written numerous times on various posts, so I just automatically delete all those duplicates.

I’ve gotten that hundreds of lines spam comment before. That spammer is either a complete idiot or has a piece of code missing for his bot to actually make that a less insane spam comment

Everyone’s gotten that spam comment, and probably all the other ones I’ve “replied” to. That’s what makes the whole thing so funny. The dumber the spammer, the better for me. It’s one post a month I don’t have to think too much about ahead of time.

If he/she/it/they are too busy spamming someone else, I’ll be there for you – cuz you’re funny when you’re nasty….uh, nasty when you’re funny??….I’m gonna quit while I’m behind. 😉

Funny and nasty at the same time, mostly. Thanks, G.O.D., for your continuing support.

Of course, seeing this on a Spam-Bam post only helps ~
