I totally forgot this old post (hard to believe, I know). As I face a near future of no internet for several days, I will look fondly back on my early computer experiences. Enjoy this story – and be sure to click over and read Paul Curran’s story on Mark Bialczak’s site.
Sometimes Paul Curran makes me laugh, and sometimes he reminds me of my own stories. Recently, he did both.
In his recent post on Mark Bialczak’s blog, Paul talked about his experience with porn sites. Like most of you, I was totally shocked [if you believe that, I have a bridge I can sell you] that Paul would go onto porn sites, but then, Paul is a man and men are pigs [as most women know, and accept].
Paul’s story reminded me of my own family’s very first computer. For years, we had fought against getting a computer, despite the kids coming home every other day and telling us that all their friends had them. This was back in the early 1980s when computers were not a necessity in every household.
Eventually, we gave in – and I became the computer guru in our house.

I remember this adventure ! Since then, I’ve gotten a lot of spam from one particular post, entitled “Unmowed”…I guess it is a play on the word “unshaven”…who knows ???

This was so funny! It reminded me of something I did once. My partner and I share a computer and I often go through his emails and delete the useless ones. When I saw one from Marjorie with the subject “Stay Upright” I laughed, thinking it was spam for viagra so I deleted it. A few more came so I deleted them to. Then, when Paul was home, another one arrived so I told him about this persistent Marjorie and her obsession with keeping him “upright”. His expression was priceless. Marjorie was reminding him of his upcoming motorbike course called “Stay Upright” and giving him details of where the course was being held. She was wondering why he hadn’t responded! Happily he got to the course and has remained “upright” ever since – at least on his motorbike 🙂

Ha! That’s so funny. Poor guy was accused of something he didn’t do. Was he upset?
