As luck would have it, everyone I know is too busy to enjoy my vacation with me. While sleeping to noon every day is attractive, I think if I started my new job without having done anything for these two weeks, I would feel I wasted the time off.
Today was the coolest day this week (a high of only 86° F!), so I grabbed my camera and Teddy Rosalie and headed off to the Buffalo Zoo.
Haven’t been to the zoo since the kids were little, and there have been a lot of changes. No more looking at large animals crammed into tiny cages – now there are individual habitats appropriate for each type of animal.
At 86° F, it was a bit warm, especially in areas with full sunlight. Due to the heat, most of the animals were dozing.
Of course, some animals don’t care about the heat, and some never forget that there are people out there who want to see them!
After awhile, Teddy Rosalie got a little annoyed that she was not the star in every, single photo.
Of course, if you’re visiting the Buffalo Zoo, you absolutely must take time to visit the bison exhibit! (Guess bison aren’t used to hot days, either.)
Even Teddy Rosalie needed a rest after awhile, and no one was using this sign.
By now, the heat was getting to me, too. It was time to head home for the air conditioning, but I didn’t mind cutting the visit short – I had asked for the reduced senior admission – and got it! At that price, and with the zoo being only about 15 minutes from my house, I can return whenever I wish.
Bet you all can’t wait!

Bless you! I had to do a lot of playing with the software to make them even this presentable! I definitely will need to go back when the weather is cooler and take better photos.

I think you should get Teddy Rosalie some summer shorts and T shirt – that wool sweater is looking mighty hot.

That never even occurred to me – no wonder she was getting bitchy towards the end!

What fun… I knew you would not be able to not do anything all day for long..

I thought I could. But after sleeping, watching TV, and playing videogames for 3 days straight, even I couldn’t stand it.

I think Teddie Rosalie would look adorable in a little safari suit – especially if you are planning more zoo visits. Love the photos 🙂

I’m sure Teddy Rosalie would look adorable in any outfit I put her in – but I’m not willing to spend money on clothes for a teddy bear when I can barely (pardon the pun) afford clothes for me.

Lovely day, if a bit hot, CM. I love all the photos, every darn one. Teddy Rosalie looks awesome with the big guys. ❤ Good for you making the most of your time before the new job. Congrats all the way around.

It didn’t seem all that hot because there was lots of shade and a good breeze. But once home, I discovered my face and arms were sunburned. I haven’t had a sunburn in years!

Fantastic photos! I think the hyena is my favorite. ❤️

I’ll have to go back in cooler weather when the hyena is awake and active. I didn’t even try to see the polar bears in such warm weather.

One of the air-conditioned buildings had an army cot set up in an alcove. I was so tempted to lie down on it.

Teddy Rosalie is not available at the Indianapolis Zoo…Quite lucky, Buffalo is.
Years ago, I used to haul all my children to the zoo several times a week. True testament to being ‘stuck’ at home with a gaggle of kids, as now, I haven’t been to the zoo in years. I keep saying I will, but I just don’t. Perhaps in the fall, when it’s cooler.

If I ever get to Indianapolis, Teddy Rosalie will come with me. I never thought I would go to a zoo alone, but I found I enjoyed it every bit as much as I did when I used to take the kids.

I believe you. I think it must be much quieter alone, and that would be energizing.

Although I did get some odd looks from parents who wondered why I was walking around talking to a teddy bear.

Nice photos, CM! But where are the bears? I’m sure Teddy Rosalie would like to meet some of her cousins. ʕ ∗ •́ ڡ •̀ ∗ ʔ

I somehow managed to miss the entire bear exhibit. I think Teddy Rosalie didn’t want any competition.

She did. A couple of times I could have sworn I saw Vlad out of the corner of my eye, but couldn’t catch him on camera.
