“Fall Up”
Looks like I won’t be able to post any more. WordPress has forced me into the new block editor, and I can’t figure it out. Damn WordPress.
[ten minutes later, blood pressure up, heart fluttering]
Ok. I did figure out how to start in block editor, then save, and then edit with the classic editor. Finally, I was able to actually insert a photo. Every time I want to save or further edit, I get a notation asking me if I really want to use classic editor. So annoying.
But I shouldn’t have to go through all that, and really I don’t need the extra stress right now.
I was about 30 seconds away from simply deleting my WordPress account and demanding refund of my plan pre-payment. I would miss all of you.
Let me repeat: Damn WordPress.

Damn them indeed. I found a work-around which is a pain in the anatomy but I will use it until I can’t. Then they can go fry. I have been reading dozens of extra WP blogs lately (because it’s raining and I can’t work) and have yet to see even one praising the Blockhead’s Editor.

Thanks, Marc. I’ve been using the WP Admin option ever since the last WP “upgrade”. I don’t recall a drop-down menu offering an option between editors, or at least if there was, I didn’t see it.

You can’t select “Add New” first, you have to go to “All Posts” to get it! Crazy. It seems most people expect this to be removed at some point too.

Check my blog. I have a thing on how to get back to the previous editor. It’s not a permanent fix, but it makes it normal for a few months, anyway.

Thanks, Marilyn. I did ultimately find a way back, but it’s still more annoyance than I may care to endure.

I completely agree! I took a break over the summer and came back to find this mess……..I don’t want extra stress so I know I will be posting a lot less………..I hope you stay as you will be missed………….

I think WP may lose some bloggers because of it, but at least for the time being, I’ll still be here. Thanks, Wendi. I know you don’t need that additional stress, either.

I completely agree……..it’s just a huge pain.

I’ve done my past 5 or so posts from my smartphone, which is a huge step for me, so I feel your pain!

I wouldn’t even attempt to blog from a smartphone, even if I had one. That sounds like just way too much work.

CM, there’s a work-around. Give this a try. Go to the Posts link on the side menu in administrator mode, then click on All Posts instead of New Post. When you are presented with the All Posts page, near the top left there’s a new scroll menu labelled Add New. Click on the arrow and one of the two choices that comes up is “Classic editor”. Click ont his and our usual beloved editor appears. Similarly, if you want to edit an existing post, on the All Posts page you now have the option between ‘edit’ and ‘classic editor’. Once you get comfortable with where these new options are you’ll be all set. Damn the block editor!

Thanks, Jane. I finally did figure it out, but it’s still more work than I want.

When you see the black ‘+’ on the upper right corner of a new block, click that to open the list of blocks you can use. If you don’t see “Image,” start typing “Img” and the block choice will appear. Once you select an Image block, it’s pretty easy to figure out.

Thanks, Dan. I saw all those different block options and give up. But then I found my way back to the classic editor, so all is well with my world.

The more you use the new editor, the easier it is, but there are still some frustrations!

I hear you, Trent. I’m really not all that interested in learning something new, and for now I’m still able to use the classic editor. I don’t understand why WP insists on “fixing” something that was working just fine for most of us.

I don’t know why they thought they had to “fix” it either – if it ain’t broke….

You’re right, CM. The new editor is a real pain. I will miss your weekly post and awesome photos. Stay safe and healthy, my friend! (*’∀’人)

I’ll still be posting now that I found my way back to the classic editor. Once that’s gone, however, all bets are off.

I started using the new editor shortly after it came available, mostly because I knew what was inevitably going to happen – it would become the default and eventually the only editor. I’d rather learn it at my own pace than to be faced with the options of use it or lose it.
Personally I found it no less intuitive than the old editor. I think both have about the same level of difficulty to learn. It probably took about four or five posts to get comfortable with the new editor. Now I prefer the new editor over the old one.

Thanks, Barry. It’s good to know it gets easier the more it’s used.

I’ve been using the new editor hoping it will grow on me, CM. A month in, nope. Just because you can change something doesn’t mean you should is this old dog’s motto, but WordPress is all in in the new way, their notes and alerts reflect.

Double ugh. While I won’t quit WP complete, I may be posting less. Which maybe I would have done anyway, but the new editor might encourage me to cut back sooner.

Don’t you dare leave us, CM. You can get the hang of the new editor.

Don’t leave, dude! Took me a while to figure it out too, but it’s not so bad now that I’ve used it a few times.

Thanks, Trent. It’s annoying, but not enough so to make me leave all my online friends. BTW, how’s your reading going? Haven’t heard from you …

I think they need to offer a remedial Word Press option for folks like us who just want to write a post and put a picture in. It looks like the block editor is pretty advanced stuff and does some amazing things. I’m sure there are those out in the WP universe who love all of it’s functionality. But for those of us who just want to tell a simple store and not share it all over social media or sell tickets (or merchandise) or take a poll or one of the other million things it seems to do, it’s just too much. I muddled through 2 posts with it. Not fun, but I made it! Be strong!
