It’s summer! Time to get out and play in the sunshine.
Knock on wood.
New York State seems to have succeeded in bringing the COVID-19 epidemic down to very manageable levels. Kudos to Gov. Cuomo for his actions at the very beginning to shut down the state, and to require masks and social distancing, and for his firm, but slow, phase-based reopening plan. So far, it seems to be working.
I was even brave enough last week to go out for an actual shopping trip! Not that it was as much fun as it used to be, what with the mask – and in my case, cotton gloves – but at least I felt relatively safe. Everyone was masked, everyone maintained their distance, and the stores had instituted checkout procedures to continue to keep everyone as safe as possible.
I applaud the Northeast governors’ recent declaration to keep out visitors from high-risk states.
And my heart goes out to the people in those states. They’re where we were back in March and April, and I understand completely what they may be going through. Hospitals are overwhelmed, everyone’s skittish about being near anyone else – and there are those who still don’t take the whole thing seriously and who seem to go out of their way to flaunt the guidelines. COVID-positive parties? Really?
To everyone here in the US and those elsewhere who celebrate our 4th of July: Enjoy the holiday, but stay safe and healthy. Wear a mask and maintain social distancing. It’s working here; it will work wherever you are.
Hugs to all.

They are opening up the pubs and caravan parks this weekend here. We are dreading it, but grateful we are at the opposite end of town and away from all the attractions.
Keep safe.

I hope it goes well for everyone, but there just seems to be so much inconsistency in the approach that it’s scary. Anyway, enjoy your holiday, CM!

I’m comfortable enough with the way things are here, Trent, but I worry about other people coming into the state. I saw an awful lot of Florida and California license plates while driving around Buffalo yesterday.

My state just made it mandatory to wear masks whenever out in public places – very disturbingly, there were too many people at the crowded grocery store yesterday without masks. I find people more and more frustrating as this Covid continues to travel through our population.

I’m sorry that the virus is surging in your state. I know for a long time you seemed to be safer than us. Stay in as much as you can and stay healthy.

Well, darn, that pretty much shoots my 4th of July plans. You know how wild I am. Not. My plans are simply to let Puppy Cody hide from the fireworks where she wishes inside the house.
