Every day, twice a day, I pass it on my way to and from work. I knew it belonged to the State University of New York at Buffalo (South Campus), but had no idea what it was called. So, I simply named the photo “Tower at UB South.”
Finally. I asked hubby if he knew what that structure was, having graduated from UB many years ago. He informed me it’s a water tower.
Well, duh. How disappointing. I rather liked the idea of some Rapunzel-like lady-in-distress throwing her long hair down from that crow’s nest walkway.
Just a plain old water tower. Almost as exciting as, say, wild chokeberries:
(Once again – thanks to my girls for the gift of that little Olympus camera, which I have finally learned how to use.)
Enjoy the rest of your weekend, folks.

Water towers are getting pretty rare. Wait a while. It’ll be a relic.

We have a chokecherry tree but I’ve never heard of choke berries…

I believe it’s the same thing, just different terms depending on what part of the country you’re in.

The tower is a nice one. I think, over time, you can drift back to Rapunzel.

I have lots of tower photos. At one point I thought about doing a whole series on towers and steeples. I even have one photo of a tower with a construction ladder up against it – that one certainly lends itself to a Rapunzel story.

It does, doesn’t it? I pass by that water tower every weekday going to and from work, and finally decided to take a picture while sitting at the light in traffic. I’m so happy it turned out well.

I actually think that’s a pretty cool water tower. Most of them are top-heavy and bulbous, kind of ugly. That one has style, looks like a lighthouse.

That was my thought. It definitely looks like it should be on water and not in the middle of the city.

Yah. I just think the concept of water towers is pretty cool, actually. The fact that they exist is a cool bit of engineering.

I have a photo of something remarkably similar, from Berlin. It’s called a flak tower – bristling with anti-aircraft guns during World War II. I posted it shortly after visiting you the first time, on my way to Ohio. Glad you’re having fun with your various cameras. 😀

Your tower is probably more interesting than a mere water tower.
