Winter Just Got A Little Warmer

Sometimes using that credit card is a good thing.

You’ll all recall my post about the fence contractor who absconded with my $2900 down payment (if you didn’t read it, click here).  You will also recall my relief when I realized I had used a credit card for that down payment rather than a check.  I immediately put a claim in with the credit card company to dispute the fence company charge as “services not rendered.”

Having heard nothing on that claim after 10 days, I called the bank and was told that yes, they were working on the dispute and that if they needed any documentation, they would contact me.  By Christmas, I had not yet heard back, but  I wasn’t overly concerned.  The bank had told me they had a January 9 deadline to complete their investigation.

I did my best to put the matter out of my mind pending the holidays – although admittedly I cussed out that fence contractor every time we had to take Puppy Cody out on leash in the middle of a snowstorm.

This is not a black-and-white photo. Poor Cody and Dad had to walk through this – thank you, crooked fence guy!

Like everyone else, despite my diminished financial circumstances at the moment, I went a wee bit over budget on my Christmas spending.  This morning, I went online to check my credit card balance to find out just how much over budget I am, and learned that the charge for the fence deposit has been reversed!  I actually succeeded in getting my money back!

Life is good.  I can start re-researching fence companies and hope to get that darn fence as soon as the ground thaws in the spring.  My daughter will be pleased that Mom and Dad will no longer have to bring Puppy Cody to her house every single night to run free in a fenced-in yard.

(Note to said daughterI owe you big time.  I don’t know what we would do without your patience and understanding.)

Yay for credit!

  1. This is absolutely terrific news! So pleased for you, and hope you can get a new fence guy arranged in the minimum time frame (hint: if he’s a dog lover, he may be sympathetic to your needs!). Great way to start the new year!

    • One can only hope. All three of the fence contractors I received estimates from understood my need for a fence for Cody. It was one of the things I stressed. Hopefully, one of the other two will actually show up.

Merry Christmas from your credit card company! Now, will you have to wait until spring for the ground to thaw, before you can put up a fence?

  6. I’m so glad the amount has been reversed, CM. It was indeed a good thing to use the credit card. Huh…that will teach the Classic Offence company a lesson. (•$⌣$•)و ̑̑♡

  7. Every time I’ve been “ripped off,” it was cash. I have learned, as you have, that those who won’t take credit can’t have my money. I’m very glad you got your money back.

I am glad for you that you got your money back. I hate being scammed. This December has been awful. I do not remember this bitter cold this early. Lucky for you that you do not have to go to work. I have one more week and then thats it! I was hoping it would stop snowing until then. HA!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

    • If you’re like me, this last week will bring mixed emotions. I was so relieved to be going, but was still stressing out about the work I was leaving behind. I’ve been loving retirement, however. I wish I could make it last forever, but the money will run out in another month or so, and it will be back to the grind – but only for 3 days a week if I’m lucky.
