I don’t know about you, but I’ve been sneezing for a couple of weeks now, ever since the dandelions and other spring flowers/weeds have appeared.
Not that I’m complaining – at least it seems to have finally stopped snowing here in Buffalo, NY!
At some point, I’ll go out and trim along the edge of the yard, but for now I’m finding the spring flowers attractive:
I think they’re asters? It’s not clear in the photo, but those flowers have a definite pink tinge. In any event, they’re kind of pretty, aren’t they?
What’s not so attractive these days is the real estate market. I know a couple who were able to sell their house in only a few hours, at $40,000 over the asking price, but now they need to find a new home – and it’s not easy. Even the highest bidders are not prevailing if they aren’t cash buyers. Sellers are nervous about buyers who need to close the sales of their own existing houses, and are often taking lower bids from those who can pay cash, or from those who are living in an apartment (or in mommy’s and daddy’s basement) and will be able to move in immediately.
I’m so glad I’m no longer a real estate paralegal.
Meanwhile, now that COVID requirements are easing and people can actually go out and do fun stuff, I’ve been dog-sitting on occasion. Puppy Maya is almost 9 months old and learning how to be a “big” dog.

I think those are asters. We have the same ones — some very tiny, some almost the size of a small daisy. I think that’s the “base” from which many other species have been developed.
We live IN a woods and the pollen levels have been at the top of the charts for weeks. I’m hoping once all the trees a fully in leaf, the pollen level will ease off.

Ah, I forgot to include a reference to the yellow pollen in my post! It’s everywhere. I get my car washed and by the time I get home, it’s covered again.

I’ve had itchy eyes, sneezing and post nasal drip since it got warm enough here for things to start blooming. It’s allergies. Dang. I hope you feel better soon!

She really is a very good dog; she’s just still a bit rambunctious because she’s a puppy. She so wants to be good, but the puppiness gets to be too much for her at times.

The happiness part of the pollen counts is that it’s nice out there – it’s stopped snowing in Buffalo – spring has sprung and we have two wee little tomatoes on one of our plants, peas in bloom, and the pepper plants also showing tiny little peppers beginning. Today I am happy with the weather because it’s 71 out there, which is in the perfect temperature range for me, and in two or three days I will be complaining about the temperatures in the 90s. But still, there will be the tomatoes, and the peas, and the peppers, and the sneezes. So, it’s all good, despite what I think of the state of the world.

I so love fresh picked veggies, but I don’t have the time or energy to start a garden. Never mind that the bunnies and squirrels would eat everything anyway.

Oh gimme! Maya is beautiful! We are looking for a new fur baby but all local rescues aren’t open and some say they have no dogs for adoption. Breeders are asking thousands for pups.
Glad we don’t suffer from hay fever as a rule.

Aw, I hear you. Maya’s owner started off looking for an adoptable puppy, but the waiting list was too long, so she drove to a breeder about 4 hours away. Maya was expensive, but worth it – she is an absolutely beautiful (and totally healthy) German Shepherd. Hope you find your own fur baby soon. I remember how lonely a house can be between pets.

Breeders are charging anything between £3000 and £5000 for a GSD, border collies are around £2500 and our friends up the road paid £1500 for their chihuahua. A lady in the next road has a cavapoo which had 11 pups in March. 4 died, she gave one to her sister who had lost her own dog when she ran into the road and was hit by a car (the sister of her own cavapoo), she’s keeping one, and sold the remaining 5 for £1000 each.
We’ll keep looking…………….

Prices are comparable here. During the pandemic, the local SPCA was requiring appointments to view and/or adopt a pet. If you happened to see a dog or pup on their website, by the time you made the appointment (usually several weeks away), the dog you wanted was long gone and all that was left were animals you wouldn’t want or trust.

The dogs we have found available all have issues of some description. We could cope with it being the only pet, or no kids, but as I make a fuss of practically every dog I come across, one that doesn’t get on with other dogs would not suit us at all, and it wouldn’t be fair on the dog either.
