December 1

No way am I going out on the roads to take photos today, even though they probably would be beautiful.

As it was, I nearly slid off my own porch when I took Cody out to do her morning business.  Thanks heavens that fence comes right to the steps so I could hang onto it, but even so my feet kept slipping out from under me.  Hopefully none of my neighbors was up that early on a Sunday morning ’cause I’m sure I made quite a spectacle of myself.

According to the local news:

  • an incoming plane slid off the runway at the airport – thankfully no one was hurt;
  • a driver lost control and his/her vehicle and wound up under a tractor-trailer, which then ended up sliding sideways and blocking the entire road – there’s been no word yet as to the fate of the car driver, but it doesn’t look good from the news photos;
  • a salter truck slid off the road about a mile from my house.

My car can sit where it is until tomorrow.  That remote start is going to get a real workout.  Of course, I forgot to set the car to defrost mode, but hopefully by the time I go out at least some of that ice will have melted off (and I nearly slid off the porch a second time trying to take the photo!):

Stay in and stay warm, everyone.

    I hope you won’t need an icepick to open the car doors. All that ice can be beautiful, but it sure is hard to get around in.

    I know, its terrible out there. I went flying on my deck when I let the little furfaces out, who also went skidding…but they have four on the floor and did better than I.

    A lot of that treacherous ice is now gone, CM. This morning however a very different story. I wonder if the Bill’s game still went on as usual or if it was canceled? As you can tell I don’t know. Stay warm!

    • I have no idea about the Bills game, Our driveway and walks are still icy. My husband did go out and said the roads were ok, and there was almost no traffic, but that some of the parking lots were pretty slick. I remote started my car and ran it for 10 minutes, and most of the ice slid off, so I’m good to go tomorrow morning.

  5. Hey, Cordelia’s Mom! Sorry I’ve been an irregular blogger and follower. I’m sure I missed a lot. Stay safe always!!! We are currently awaiting a typhoon that’s expected to be strong, so yeah, weather sucks here, too.

  6. I guess it’s winter, huh. Garry cleared the walk and made some room for the dogs to go out. The Scotties have short legs. I don’t think we’re going to get the biggest amount of snow, but we could We’re just inches from the heaviest areas on the map, so it only has to move a little bit to put us in the middle.

    I went out at 6 a.m. to clear the cars of snow so my dear wife Karen would be able to leave in time to get to her 7 a.m. shift, CM. Even though we have a plow guy, I still have to clear the walk, the cars, the driveway strips at the sides and between the cars … I caught a little break by the library delaying its opening an hour, and our employee-report-to-duty time as well! It is darn icy outside.

    The worst part of winter is ice. I’m glad you stayed out of harm’s way.

    Good mercy. You hang onto that fence! On days like that, I just let the dog go. I’ve got no fence to hold onto, and 99% of the time, she goes where she’s supposed to go to do what she’s supposed to. Good dog. I’m not about to take a spill on the icy steps.
    We’re getting some bad weather Sunday night – Tuesday morning.
