Me and 23

God, I hope I don’t get sued for that title!

Anyway.

Having run out of ideas for posts, I was very happy when I came across Laura’s (Riddle from the Middle) post, “23 random facts about yours truly” which she created after reading “25 Random ‘Carol’ Things” by Carol at Wanderings of an Elusive Mind, “About 25 Random ‘Mel’ Facts” by Mel at sparksfromacombustiblemind and “Fun Random Facts” by teleportingweena.  Every one of them is worth reading.

While I have not been formally invited to participate in the challenge, I’ve decided to do so anyway, blog-crasher that I am.  So, here are the standard 23  (let’s learn to count, people!) questions and my answers, for your Friday entertainment:

Do you make your bed every morning?  I do, but it’s simply a matter of pulling up the sheet and comforter.  Easy peasy.

What was your first car?  My first new car was an infamous 1985 “K” car – it was a piece of crap which croaked out in heavy rain, but I could afford to buy it new, and it was mine, all mine!

What two grocery items do you never run out of?  We never run out of anything.  Between hubby and me, we keep everything well stocked.  Hey, we live in Buffalo, NY, where a freak blizzard can occur any day, any time, any season.

Why is doing laundry always such a battle?

At what age did you start doing your laundry?  I don’t recall exactly, but I do remember helping Mom put the clothes through the old wringer washer (“Keep your fingers away from that wringer!”) and then hanging them outside to dry (or up in the attic, if it was winter).

If you could, would you go back to high school?  Only if I could go back as one of the popular girls.

Can you parallel park in under three moves?  Sure, so long as the spaces in front and behind are both empty.

A job you had which people would be shocked to know you once had?  Can’t tell you.  Really, I can’t tell you.  We were sworn to secrecy.

Do you think aliens are real?  Of course they’re real – and an inordinate proportion of them have always managed to live in homes bordering mine, and seem to always take the same driving routes I do.  Maybe I’m just an alien magnet.

Can you drive a stick shift?  I can, but not voluntarily.  Who needs all that extra work, especially in city traffic?

Guilty TV pleasure?  I’m guilty of never watching TV.  There’s nothing there that appeals to me.

Tattoos?  You’re joking, right?  I’m 67 years old – in my day, the only people who had tattoos were drug addicts and felons.  I’ve never gotten beyond that bias.

May the angels watch over each and every one of us.

If the world ends do you want to be one of survivors?  Yes.  Just think what I could do if I had the entire world all to myself!  Hopefully, Puppy Cody will be with me.  (Of course, if the world actually did end, there would be no survivors, but I’ll take the question as is.)

Sweet or salty?  Sweet or salty what?  Oh, food!  (I thought someone had slipped in a dirty question, which I wouldn’t care to answer.)  At  my age, I need to limit salt somewhat, but I’m not diabetic or pre-diabetic (yet), so definitely sweet.

Do you enjoy soaking in a nice hot bath?  This is a sore topic for me.  I would love to take a nice hot bath (with bubbles) in my new bathtub, which has a nice wide ledge that just begs for candles and a wine glass.  But once I got into the tub, I’d probably never be able to get out, despite the old-lady grab-bar.  It would be so embarrassing to have to wait for those cute ambulance guys to come and pull me out.

Puppy Cody always wins tug-o’-war.

Do you consider yourself a strong person?  Emotionally, I’m one of the strongest people I know.  Academically, I did ok, and I haven’t become stupid yet.  Physically?  I think Puppy Cody is stronger than me; in fact, I know she is.

Something people do that drives you nuts?  Pretty much everything. I am definitely not a people-person.  But top of the list would have to be the “other drivers” – really, can’t we just get all the “other drivers” off the road?

Do you have any birthmarks?   Why would anyone in his or her right mind answer that question on a public forum?  Especially someone who hasn’t even released her real name so far?  Let’s move on, people.

Favorite childhood game?  Ah, so many to choose from!  I guess I would have to go with Scrabble because I was so good at it.  I used to enjoy chess, until I joined the Chess Club in high school and quite literally got laughed back out, even though one of the nerds tried his best (bless his kind little heart) to lose to me – and failed.

Teddy Rosalie might have better luck if she turned the cards the other way.

Do you talk to yourself?  Never.  When alone, I have lengthy conversations with my alter-ego (Not CM), with Teddy Rosalie, and with Puppy Cody.  Sometimes Not CM and Teddy Rosalie talk back, but Puppy Cody only barks.

Do you like doing jigsaw puzzles?  I love jigsaw puzzles.  I  have a whole closet full of puzzles I have put together and taken apart, just waiting for me to get the itch and find the time to enjoy them again.  One of my secret dreams is to submit a photo to a puzzle company and have it used for a jigsaw puzzle.  Wouldn’t that be cool?

Tea or coffee?  Either, although I must limit coffee because I recently figured out I’m probably allergic to the beans.  I don’t think it’s the caffeine, because I can drink tea and cola.  So, I only allow myself to enjoy coffee a couple of times a week – and only when I’m near a bathroom (probably more info than you wanted, right?).

First thing you remember wanting to be when you grew up?  A nurse.  That dream ended when I volunteered as a Candy Striper.  I was ok with the gore and all that, but I couldn’t handle the suffering, and I absolutely refused to work in the pediatric department.  I think I lasted about a week at that hospital.  God bless anyone who does, in fact, become a nurse.  It takes a strong, compassionate person.

Favorite game now?  Other than messing with other people’s minds through my blog?  (Oh wait, that was the mirror blog, which is now inactive.)  These days, I love to play computer videogames, especially hidden object type games.  Mindless and entertaining,  Perfect for a work-day evening.

That was fun!  Anyone else want to get on the train?  Just link back if you do.

I’m with you about other drivers. And of course there are aliens. Some legal and some illegal. Smart move, not revealing your birthmarks. In fact, because of the birthmark question, I suspect the Deep State is behind this “23 Questions” idea. So I won’t be answering any of them.

Oh my, red face. I didn’t even have to count since the questions were clearly numbered 1 through 23. So much for my fact-checking. Never occurred to me to question the tattoo question, but if I had, I only said I had a tattoo, which isn’t very definitive, and as you said, I have no secrets I need to hide from Big Brother. Thanks for the mention, and I’m glad you joined in the fun.

Fun answers! We recently bought a third family car since our son’s in his learner’s permit year and we chose a stick shift — I’d forgotten how much fun they are to drive but you’re right, definitely NOT in stop & go traffic. So glad you decided to play along.

  7. Thanks for playing along with this. Barbara of Teleporting Weena is the ‘author’ and she got the questions from Facebook I believe. Puppy Cody is DARLING and since I’m a ‘dog person’ big time, you garnered yourself another follower. I think this will prove interesting! 🙂

Thanks for the mention, CM, and for playing along with the questions. I enjoyed reading your answers.
You sound like me with the jigsaw puzzles – a closet full of them, and sometimes we do them again.
Oh yes, I remember helping with the laundry and the wringer washer, too. Then hanging everything outside on the line. 🙂
