I wanna go, too! Pleeeese, Mommy?

sigh.

But Teddy Rosalie was within her rights.  She’s been cooped up way too much for way too long, and it was a nice autumn day – cool enough that someone who insists on wearing a sweater 24/7 wouldn’t pass out from the heat.

So, off we went to Walton Woods Park so Teddy Rosalie (hereafter called, TR) could see if for herself.

Unfortunately, like so many kids, TR could not resist climbing on that big rock just inside the entrance:

It’s a really big rock, and a really small teddy bear!

Nor on the smaller rocks just a small way down the path. Those rocks made me nervous because they’re so close to the water:

Smaller rocks for small teddy bear.

Finally I managed to get her off the rocks and onto the path, and as soon as we rounded the corner, TR found this fallen log:

No, Teddy – don’t touch those mushrooms!

A little ways further on, there were 6 deer – 3 on each side of the path!  TR had never seen deer and got scared.  Good thing ’cause it kept her quiet so I could get some shots of this very tame fawn.  I was so glad I had turned off the sounds to my camera, including the shutter click, so as not to startle any wildlife.  Didn’t matter, that fawn came right up to the path where we were standing, munching happily on mushrooms and leaves.

The fawn and its mom and sibling finally took off into the woods when a gentleman on a bike came past.  I don’t know why that startled them as other bikers had previously gone past; maybe, the deer were simply done with their lunch.

Once that “danger” (in TR’s mind) was over, TR got back to her mischievous ways.   She now discovered tree-climbing:

Teddy was having fun until she got stuck.

A ways further on, we took a narrow unpaved path to the water’s edge (unwise, I know, considering my companion).  TR so wanted to climb into the bushes to see the water better:

No, Teddy! That tree’s too close to the water!

As usual, Teddy didn’t listen, but I caught her before she got too high up the tree.

At that point, I’d had enough and we turned back.  I’m so glad TR didn’t see this really tall tree:

I would gladly have paid someone $20 to climb up and put Teddy into one of the high branches, but there weren’t any takers.

You’d think by now TR would be worn out, right?  But she still had plenty of energy to run ahead:

Teddy, stop! There are dogs on this path!

By the time we got back to the little footbridge, TR was tired enough to sit awhile, looking for fish and frogs:

What I saw, and she didn’t, was the silver-dollar sized turtle sunning itself on a log:

I love the reflection in the water.

And then jumping off that log and swimming away:

I love my new camera with its 35X zoom lens and totally silent functioning.  That turtle stayed just long enough for my purposes.

I carried TR the rest of the way.  Good thing ‘ cause she didn’t see the chipmunk:

She would have chased it, I know.

Our little outing complete, we headed home.  TR is now resting on her shelf, and I am done for the day.

TGIF, Everyone.

  2. I thought it was Saturday, so I guess I’ll have to cope with a double Saturday weekend. We gave Duke his own black and white spotted rubber dog. It doesn’t squeak and it’s not fuzzy, but he like carrying it around the house. He would carry TR if you off him the chance. TGIF to you too.

Great shots. I liked the turtle shots best. But how cool that you got so close to those deer.

    • I’m especially happy with those turtle shots, too. It was a very small turtle (silver dollar), and was away from shore, and the shore was a rather steep hill so I couldn’t get down all the way without falling in. Gotta love that zoom lens.
