Thank you, Flickr, for nothing.
Just when I thought my photographic career (such as it is) was about to take off, you made it impossible for me to post any photos to your site. No FlickerFriday, no daily photos. No explanation as to why your site is down – just a silly looking panda bear sitting on the screen with no text, descriptive or otherwise.
WTF?
The monthly black-and-white theme is “Line and Focal Point” and the month ends soon. I struggled to find something to shoot that would fit into that theme, and finally discovered the office copier. Yes! Simple, recognizable, looks good in black-and-white, lots of lines, and the feeder is definitely a focal point.
I spent an inordinate amount of time taking pictures of that darn machine, while simultaneously hiding from my coworkers who would think it odd. Really? It’s spring – shouldn’t you be out taking flower pictures like everyone else?
No, I did that last week:

Looks a lot like the pussy willow buds photo I posted before, but this is the 2019 version.
Finally, I got what I figured was the best copier shot possible with the camera I had on hand (I was afraid to take my bigger, more expensive camera into the office). I went home, downloaded to the computer and spent more excessive time editing with my truly basic software. Not an easy task considering what I started with, but I liked the end result:

If this photo makes you cringe, you are an office worker.
So, then I go to upload to Flickr, and guess what? The site is down “for maintenance.” Ok, I can understand that, but it’s been days now and the site is still down, with no indication of when it might come back up.
I’m annoyed as heck. My annual payment is due to Flickr next week. Wanna guess if I’m going to make that payment?
Hope your week went better than mine. TGIF.

They are changing ownerships and moving everything to a new server. It was in the news so I’m surprised you missed it. They should be back up pretty soon. It’s not good for them to be down, either.

No, I didn’t see that in the news. I just checked now, and they seem to be back up. Still time to submit my monthly photo, such as it is.

It seems that Flickr is moving from Yahoo provided servers to Amazon, and they’ve hit a few more stumbling blocks than anticipated: a href=”https://www.flickr.com/help/forum/en-us/72157691537882093/”>Flickr downtime on May 22 and site issues since then

Thanks, Barry. Apparently, I somehow missed that news. They seem to be back up now, though.

That’s a great photo CM. Refuse payment join Instagram! I will send Vlad round to sort out Flicker💜💜

Flickr is back up, so Vlad’s services won’t be needed just yet, much as I’d love to see him again.

I was really scared, CM. When the site finally came back up, all of my photos were there but it said “You don’t follow anyone,” and asked me if I wanted to import contacts from email and facebook. Most of the people I follow are only connected to me on Flickr. It seems to be back in order now.

It was the same with me, Dan. It’s back up, but the feed is different, and it seems really slow to me. But they’re probably still working out a few bugs.

Can’t say my week was better…
I’d stick with WordPress. Flickr’s decision to make 1,000 photo limit retroactive, for example… 15 years of photos, just gone. WP doesn’t do that.

Oh no, I can’t imagine losing all that work! Fortunately, I post my photos to three different sites, so hopefully they won’t all go down.

PS – Are you still on Flickr? How do I find you there?

Oh, no, I’m only on WordPress and Twitter. 🙂
And also tumblr, but that was more of an experiment on a site I don’t wish to return to since the over-the-top adult content ban.

ok. Have you tried YouPic? There are some really extraordinary photographers on there. When I get good reviews from one of them, I really feel special.

Hey, CM, you got to post the cool lines of your photo here on WordPress. When Flickr finally makes its reappearance, what you put up there will only be a copy! Ha.

Good way to look at it. Thanks.

Sorry to hear about your woes, CM. I just do WP for now …. I have way too much going on in my life to even think about doing more then that. Hope this week is a much better one for you!! 😘😘
