Finally! This truly ugly bathroom will be history! Demo and renovation started this morning.
Of course, you all know the way my luck runs. The first thing we found out is that there is no shutoff valve on the kitchen sink, and the plumber can’t get here until tomorrow morning. Meanwhile, the general contractor has removed the toilet (which did have a shutoff – go figure). Thank heavens we have a half-bath upstairs.
Despite a number of recent family medical events (including my eye infection, more on that later), I managed to go yesterday to Home Depot to buy the new vanity, medicine cabinet and lights. I can only hope they’ll all fit. Well, the vanity will, anyway. I bought the smallest they had because it’s a small bathroom, and the next larger size wouldn’t fit in the back of my SUV without putting down the back seat- which I can’t do right now because we have a tarp tied to it to protect it against Puppy Cody’s snowy/muddy paws when we take her to my daughter’s house to run (thank you, crooked fence guy).
Anyway.
I did find a new fence contractor and signed up, again giving the required one-half down payment. Of course, I again used the credit card – just in case. Hopefully, the fence will be done by March, or as soon as the ground thaws.
It’s warmer today (up almost to freezing), for which I’m grateful as both the front and side doors are wide open for easy access by the construction crew. Puppy Cody has barricaded herself upstairs (such a great watchdog!), and I’ve put gates across the bottom of the steps to keep her up there. She’ll get extra hugs tonight once construction has been completed for the day, and the demolition noise has ceased.
As for me: During the wild weather last week, I felt a sharp pain in my eye, and that pain not only did not go away but became accompanied by significant redness and swelling. I tried using over-the-counter saline solution, with no effect. Fortunately, on Friday I finally realized I needed medical intervention, and my eye doctor was able to fit me in. Turns out it’s a viral infection, like a cold sore, on the white of the eye. Also fortunately, the doctor was able to give me samples of the three different eyedrops I need to take, and the prescription antiviral pills carried only a $10 copay. It will take awhile to heal as I can’t take certain antibiotics due to my ulcerative colitis, but as of yesterday, I could at least read the eye chart properly. When I first went to the doctor last week, I could not read even the top line of the chart – with my glasses on!
Enough rambling for today. I hate blog sites that are basically just personal diaries, don’t you? But mine is so much more entertaining than the rest, right?
Enjoy the remainder of your day, folks.

Thanks, Dan. I’ve already realized that although we do have access to our one tub tonight, we will be taking showers in the dark (or by flashlight) because the lights have been removed. Ugh.

Glad things are moving forward (ie fence and bathroom). Sorry about the eye infection.
Hubby’s seems to have settled down now, but he’s using an eyewash every day. We’re hoping to see an improvement when we no longer need the heating running!

He’s had 2 lot of drops to apply and the eye wash is three or four times a week, It seems to be settling down though.

Glad to hear that. My eye is also beginning to clear, thank heavens. For awhile last week I thought I would go blind in that eye.

I hope your eye heals okay. Unless of course your Ugly Bathroom renovation doesn’t go well. Then you might be better off with a bad eye, so you won’t be able to see it. Or at least, half of it. And I also hope your fence contractor is not down at a casino, gambling away your downpayment. Sigh, home improvement is such iffy business.

You do have a unique way of looking at things, Tippy. I trust my general contractor as we used him to do the bathroom at our last house, but you never know – you may be right that I’ll prefer not to see it!
As for the fence guy – the NY Attorney General has gone after him. Apparently, he had over $50,000 in deposits from customers, and the AG promises that everyone will get their money back. Our new fence contractor said he got several customers that were in the same boat I was, and everyone’s scrambling to get their fence done first. Hope it’s a short winter!

May you be ready for an eye wash ASAP, CM. And we’re hoping for the new fence guy to be a straight shooter, too.

Haha, no, I love blogs that are like personal diaries. I don’t care for the ones that have a brand or a niche. I’m interested in details 🙂 (And I’m not just sayin that cause my blog is journalish, either.)
So that’s nice, and I understand all that and while I don’t hate either of my vanities, I do wish they were taller. I want taller ones. The Mister REALLY wants taller ones. Our kitchen counter/sink replacement will come first, though. We came close last month, but the plumber advised us to search out some things on our own before we decide.
Smart choice on credit card usage. I’ve made good mental note of these things 🙂

Good luck on the renovation, CM. And hope your eyes feel better now. Most Asians would take goji berries to keep their eyes healthy. https://www.realnatural.org/goji-berries-keep-eyes-healthy
Tea: Goji berries can be used to brew in a tea. You can add a handful of goji berries to a big glass of hot or cold water (or herb tea) and let sit and hydrate for 5 to 10 minutes. They become plump and juicy. You can drink the tea and eat the hydrated berries which are loaded with antioxidants.

Thanks, NBC. I did look up natural cures, but realized what I had needed medical intervention.
