It’s Here!

I’m glad I’m “retired” and don’t have to go anywhere today.

It’s only a little snow right now, but I’m sure within the next few weeks we’ll get more than our share.  I saw a study recently that says Buffalo, NY ranks #4 in the country for overall snowfall.  But that’s better than Syracuse (hi there, Mark Bialczyak!), which ranks as #1.

As I was taking today’s photos, there was a knock on my front door.  My door does not have a peephole and the way the house is constructed, it’s not possible to see who’s standing on the front porch so normally I don’t answer.  Family and friends know to call ahead and then come to the side door.

But with the weather, I thought it might be one of my new neighbors needing something or other, and for my new neighbors I do answer (yes – my life has improved).

Puppy Cody was barking and snarling, and stayed right by my side.  She was willing to put her life on the line to save her Mom!

The visitor was a young man with a shovel, and by the time I opened the door he was already trotting back down the driveway (Good job, Cody!).  I waved the guy on, seeing as I currently have no money to pay anyone, and I’m certainly capable of brushing a few inches of snow off my sidewalks and driveway – but as soon as he left, I thought, “Wait!  I should have asked him to come back when the 2-to-4 feet of snow eventually hits!”

Hopefully, he’s an enterprising young man and will thoughtfully return when that heavy snow comes.  I think I’ll put a wee bit of cash aside, just in case – and try to teach Puppy Cody to discern between true threats and people who come to help.

Anyway.

It’s too bad Puppy Cody can’t go out and play in that new snow, thanks to the absent fence contractor, but at 23° F, I don’t really want to be out there at all.

Hugs to all my readers.  May the weather be decent wherever you are.

  1. Cold and chilly today, but we managed to get the washing dry outside and Hubby cut the grass (cue rain tomorrow probably!)

  3. I have never seen snow in my entire life. I live in a part of India that doesn’t have snow so I can only imagine how it is for you! Sending warmth in this cold season 😊

We’re supposed to get 3-6” tomorrow. Maddie will get out in it, as long as I do my job.

You should have asked that snow shoveler if he charges by the inch.

I feel the same about my door, but sadly, my in-laws drop by all the time. I peek sideways out the curtains and if I don’t know the car, I don’t open the door.

  9. We going to get about 7 inches, more or less. What’s weird is that I was SURE we weren’t going to get snow. Positive. So positive, I went to Connecticut without boots — and I always carry boots in the winter because like you, we get SNOW. But in recent years, we’ve gotten a great deal of it, around 10 to 12 feet, but the bulk of it in late January, February and the beginning of March. I wasn’t at all ready for this. In fact, i haven’t made any arrangement to clear the driveway. On the “up” side, we’ve got a jeep and it’s park up at the top of the drive, so if we can hike through the snow, getting out of the driveway shouldn’t be too difficult.

But. I was completely unready. Totally. I hope we get a warm spell to get rid of this because I need to get someone to plow for us. And I really need to get ORGANIZED. Sheesh.

    • I’m never ready for snow, even when I know it’s coming. I was born and raised in Western New York and I’m used to winter weather, but that doesn’t mean I have to like it. Fortunately, we’re in the middle of December and winter usually ends by late March, so there’s only a few months to tolerate it.
