Don’t Fence Me In

If all your little friends jumped off a bridge, would you jump, too?”

That’s what my mother used to say when I complained that all my friends were going to [pick fun but very expensive attraction] or getting [pick hottest costly toy] or wearing [pick newest trendy but slutty outfit].

‘Cause you know that every kid in class – except for your kid – is going to Disneyland over [pick school holiday] and your kid knows this because when the teacher asked “Who’s going to Disneyland?“, every other kid raised his/her hand, probably because they thought the teacher said “Who wants to go to Disneyland?”

Well, Mom, this one’s for you.

All my little blogging friends are posting colorful autumn photos, and even though our trees haven’t changed much yet and I’ve been too tired and lazy to drive to where they are changing and it’s been too cold and rainy to go anyway, I’m jumping right in.

Those leaves are pretty now, but just wait until they all come down and someone has to rake them up!

And guess who’s not helping out?

  1. Ha! Look at all the pretty leaves…..waiting for someone to rake them up. 🙂

You can have the raking work. One of these days I’m taking my wife back east to show her the leaves. But I’m leaving my rake behind.

I used to love kicking through the leaves and sending them flying. Or just stepping on the crunchy ones.

    • I still like to do that, although I admit I can’t kick very high these days. And I love the smell of the dry leaves.

Unfortunately I have got to the stage where I can’t even leave the house, so unless the kids bring a load in, I don’t think I will be doing it very much lol. I did take a photo a couple of years ago of a leaf flying down the road. One of the first semi decent shots I took.

I miss the smell of burning dry leaves!!
Understand the breathing problems associated, but it was always one of my fave markers for Autumn!

I’m pretty sure that pup has one eye open, and is listening for any danger. I alway tell my wife that our dog is “on duty” when she looks like that.

It has been so rainy I have not done a lot of photo shooting either. As for raking them up, those days are long gone. I do not mind using the leaf blower on our deck. But for the lawns….I hire someone.

    • I’ve been carrying my camera back and forth to work even on rainy days, thinking a nice shot of a rain-soaked street would be ok. But I never feel like pulling over in traffic (being rear-ended doesn’t appeal to me), and the car’s so warm and cozy.

I went to Disneyland once. I think I’d rather see the dentist instead now that I’ve been there.

    • I’ve heard that from various people. I’ve never been, but then I had no real desire to go. We have two great amusement parks right in my own area that we took the kids to, no need to travel hundreds or thousands of miles. (Although we did travel 5 hours to Hershey Park. That was definitely worth it. Best. Trip. Ever!)

The leaves on the ground bother me less than the sound of the leaf blowers alll weekend long. Sigh.

  10. Blessed be whoever invented the leaf blower!

  11. Just a point here: When you have 2-1/2 acres and hundreds of trees, you would need a platoon to man the rakes. But only one leaf blower.

It’s sadly ironic to still see the ‘Want More Paul Curran’ heading, and know that here will be no more. I drove to Ottawa last weekend, to deliver ‘stuff’ to the newly-moved grandson. He’s just down the street from where Paul was . The foliage up in the Canadian end of the Adirondacks was gorgeous. :D:

  13. No fall foliage pics here in North Central Florida, but I can post chickens and peafowl, ferrets, dog, pig, guinea pig… and lots of photos of sand-spurs. Maybe that should be my response to everyone’s pretty leaf and snow pics this year – photos of sand-spurs… 😀
