Everything’s Ducky

“How’s your life these day, CookieCakes?”

Why, thank you, so kind of you to ask.

I just finished my fourth week at my new job – yay! Trust me, there was more than one day when I didn’t think I would make it this far.  In the first couple of weeks, I made quite a few rookie mistakes which led me, and everyone else, to doubt my abilities.  I think I was so scared of doing something wrong that I froze and then did exactly what I was hoping not to do!

But I’m finally settling in and feeling confident.  My co-workers are wonderful, and the work is manageable; the drive is easy; and the salary is enough to keep the bills paid.  Win-win all around.

Of course, now that I’m working five days a week instead of four like I did previously, I only have weekends to do all that other stuff I enjoy, like photography.  (Sure, I can take pictures at home in the evenings, but between exhaustion and wine, they sometimes don’t turn out too well – and does anyone really want to see multiple photographs of my kitchen table or Cody lying on the couch?).

The good news, however, is that while hubby is not at all interested in my blog, he does like spending time in scenic locations and has offered to accompany me on weekend photo shoots – often followed by dinner out, or at least takeout from our favorite restaurant.  Double yay!  So you all can hopefully look forward to some nice fall and winter shots now that I have a feel for my camera and the software that came with it (um I have advanced, right?).

Thanks very much to Dan Antion, whose comment on my Flickr.com photo gave me the inspiration for this post.  Check out Dan’s blog here, and his photography on Flickr. com here.  You’ll be glad you did!

  1. Good for you! I’m sure I couldn’t do the five day 9-5 thing anymore. I had a lot of trouble doing it when I was doing it before. The trick is, I think, to strip down the stuff to do on weekends to stuff you can ONLY do on the weekends and try to sneak in the rest after work. Congratulations on making it this far!

    • Good advice, Marilyn. The big problem is that there are already things I need to do after work, like taking Cody out, doing wash, ironing.

Oh wait, I’m pretty much already doing exactly what you suggested – chores during the week and fun on the weekends. Thanks for making me realize that!

Glad the job is good 🙂
I struggle similarly with my change in schedule. I love the work, but I find myself running errands at times I didn’t before, later and on weekends. I do miss having more time to spread the “things to do” out.

    • Yeah, that’s probably the hardest part of it. I have to come straight home from work because Cody needs to go out, so I can’t really stop at the grocery store or Target. I used to do some of that on my lunch hour, but now I’m not closer enough to any of those stores to shop at lunch time. Such a hard life, right? At least I’m not unemployed, so I’ll manage to get used to it.

    • It is grand, Jeffrey. With all the stress over the last couple of years, and especially the last few months, we were growing apart. Photo shoots & dinner will be a nice way to renew our marriage, without having to spend a lot of money that we don’t have.
