My Southern readers and those from the Mideast and similar areas will scoff, but those from Western New York and other Northern climes will agree:
It’s hotter than hell out there today!
Here in Buffalo, NY, there are usually only a few days during the summer where the temperature gets into the 90’s (Fahrenheit). Today is one of them, and it is muggy.
I spent the morning making phone calls to verify my new health insurance and to make sure all my providers have the current information. Then, having already gone out for a quick doctor’s appointment, I have the entire rest of the day to play around with. What to do?
Even Puppy Cody won’t stay outside for more than 5 minutes at a time.
So, a quick nap for both of us.
And the balance of the day? Cold, cold (but nutritious 🙂 ) food, and videogames in a darkened room, with the air conditioning and fan both running.
Works for me.

That sounds like a capital plan for the day, CM! Enjoy – it’s pretty hot here in Detroit, too!

I’m lucky that I don’t have to go anywhere this week, Karen. Just walking from the car into a building is too much!

We’ve been hot and dry but Maddie still likes to sit outside. We indulge her, but only in the shade of a tree or umbrella.

Maddie probably needs to make sure those squirrels and bunnies stay in their dens/nests, where they belong.

We are due for a heatwave next week. Cue muggy nights, stifling days, and despite everything being open on the boat, no through draft! Poor Maggie doesn’t know where to put herself, so we just make sure there is space on the bench for her to strecth out if she doesn’t want to sleep on the bed with us (yeah, I know) and that her water bowl is constantly replenished. We have been known to leave the covers open and the hatchways as we sleep, but then have to be careful with night bugs being attracted to any lights. Still, mustn’t complain, the silly season of rain, wind and snow will soon be upon us.

Poor Cody won’t even eat an ice cube when I give it to her, she just wants to lie on front of the fan.

It’s days like this that make us thankful for A\C. What a wonderful invention! Am I right?

You are very right. I remember growing up without air conditioning, in an apartment over a garage. I don’t know how we ever got through.

And unlike everywhere else, we got RAIN. Though we are supposed to get the heat tomorrow. Oh well.

We need rain, but I only want it if it will bring the temperature down. I sure don’t want more mugginess!

It brings it down temporarily, but we are in some kind of super-hot weather pattern in the northeast. From Montreal through Maryland, it’s be hot, hot, hot. If it’s also super dry, I start to fear from my water supply … and living as we do in the woods … fire. It’s tinder in there. All it would take is a couple of sparks.

I wondered about the woods and fields being so dry. I’m amazed that my own trees seem to be finding water somewhere underground. They seem to be doing just fine.

Pretty much what it is here. Supposed to be more of the same through the weekend. Guess the last few days of my vacation are all going to be indoors.

Oh CM, you definitely need to come to mild, sunny Ireland!!

Absolutely. Just find someone who wants to pay me to do a picture book of “Teddy Rosalie Goes to Ireland,” and I’ll be right over.
