It’s been fun! But I’m tired. Today is the last day of my 5-day black-and-white photography challenge.
And how appropriate that the last day just happens to fall on April Fool’s Day!
What have I learned these past five days?
I learned that even my pretty basic digital camera has way more features that I ever thought I would need. I don’t know which of my daughters chose the particular camera for me, but to whichever one it was:
Good job, Sweetie! If you ever want proof that I’ve enjoyed a gift from my children, you and your sisters only need to read this blog.
I’ve learned that if challenged to do something outside my normal comfort zone, I can rise to the occasion. Thank you, Doobster – I never would have joined the challenge on my own, and I’m glad you invited me.
I’ve also learned that while photography is fun, and I’m not as bad at it as I thought I would be – it will never be my first love. Photography does not speak to me the way writing does, nor does it haunt me the way writing does. I never once woke up in the middle of the night with a photo idea, or lay awake wondering what I could do to tweak a photo to make it perfect before posting.
I am a writer. I will always be a writer. I will never be more than an amateur photographer, nor is there an itch to be more.
That’s not to say that I won’t continue to take photographs for this blog. In fact, I intend to go on “photo shoots” once the weather is warmer so that Teddy Rosalie can get out of the house a bit. So far, she’s only been photographed at home and at the car dealership while I was getting the oil changed:
On this final day of this marathon event, I feel perhaps I should bring in medical assistance. And I know a doctor who also does some wonderful photography. Therefore, my final invitee to this challenge is: Victo Dolore, of Behind the White Coat.
So, Victo: If you have the time and the willingness, we’d all love to have you participate in this challenge. All you need to do is post a black-and-white photo each day for 5 consecutive days, and nominate another blogger on each of those 5 days. Piece of cake, right? I’m sure your patients will understand if they must wait a little longer to be seen …

I’ve been catching the travels of Teddy on Flickr too. Great shot. Nothing says tired like a dog.

I know. I love that shot of her – she’s actually behaving in it!

Hooray! Can’t wait to see what you come up with – I know you’ll do a spectacular job. (Just don’t photograph any vaginas, please.)

Probably a penis is out, too, even though I suspect that would increase my view count dramatically.

Thanks. That dog is very photogenic, and so is the teddy bear. Too bad I can’t show them together, but Cody would eat the teddy bear.

You’re every welcome, CM. I’m pleased that you jumped into the challenge with both feet and that you learned so much about your new camera along the way. And don’t sell yourself short. You photographs, whether color or black & white, are quite good.

I’m kinda glad that you didn’t use your knowledge of my personal peccadillos (And please don’t publish photos of those, even in black and white 😯 ) to extort me to join in this photo challenge. I’m like you. I’m becoming interested in what image I can use to introduce each post, but the words/writing is still the thing. 😀

Don’t worry. You’ll notice that I’m even very careful not to refer to you by your real name (you mean, G.O.D. isn’t your real name?). I know you value your privacy.

Yes, I had noticed, and I am thankful, although it’s perhaps not as important as I thought it might be when I started blogging. I was told to protect online identity, and most of the bloggers I was interested in had pseudonyms, yourself included. Over several years, I have revealed almost everything about myself, except my first name. My blog personality remains as ‘The Archon’, simply because ‘he’ can be, do, and say things my real self can’t or shouldn’t. Recently BrainRants pulled back the curtain, and called bullshit on my ‘persona.’ It’s not that I value privacy, it’s just that I still feel that people would have little interest in ‘the real me.’

Having met you, I think you’re very interesting. But a lot of bloggers don’t wish their real names revealed. My real name is getting out more and more as I interact with various bloggers, and I guess I just have to take the chance that those who find me (like yourself) are decent people and not axe murderers.
