Always a Bridesmaid …

PressClub

I must say that I am pleased that WordPress has moved the Freshly Pressed tab to the sidebar of the Reader page.

It used to annoy the hell out of me when I’d open my Reader and find all those Freshly Pressed posts written by other bloggers.  My thoughts typically ran along these lines:

♦ *sigh*  Missed me AGAIN!

♦  B-O-R-I-N-G!

♦  Honestly – I can write way better than that!

♦  Who the hell picks these things anyway?

♦  Who needs Freshly Pressed, when I’ve already been Harshly Pressed!

Now that the Freshly Pressed tab is on the sidebar, I find myself totally ignoring it.  Most days, I even forget it’s there.  When I do check it these days, my normal reaction is something like:

♦  Crap – still missed me, and the ones they picked are boring.

♦  Oh well.  Let’s see who OM reblogged today – at least his picks are entertaining.

After more than a year, I have learned to accept the fact that I’m unlikely to meet whatever requirements there are for selection by the Freshly Pressed committee (if there is one).  My posts are entertaining, amusing, and sometimes heart-rending, but never, ever boring.  Obviously, not what Freshly Pressed is all about, judging by the posts presented there (with a few exceptions – the committee sometimes has off days when they actually pick good posts!).

Now that I’ve had my say, and probably pissed off the Freshly Pressed committee, thereby assuring they’ll totally ignore me forever on (like they always have), I have an addendum to my most recent Spam-Bam Thank You Ma’am post.

This spam comment came in after this month’s edition of Spam-Bam and is too funny (and possibly too time-sensitive) to wait until next month:

COMMENT:

MurderInvestigate“An impressive share! I’ve just forwarded this onto a coworker who was conducting a litle research on this.

And he in fact ordered me breakfast due to the fact that I stumbled upon it for him… lol. So allow me to reword this…. Thank YOU for the meal!!
But yeah, tnanx for spending the timme to talk about this matter here on your web site.”

RESPONSE:

Considering that you wrote this on my “[Maybe] I’m Going to Kill You post, I would be real careful about that breakfast your co-worker is offering you, especially if he/she delivers it personally.  Someone “conducting a litle research” on the subject definitely makes me nervous.  If you suddenly drop out of the spammer lineup, I’ll know why.

Thanks for reading, everyone!  Lots of great posts coming up in October, so y’all come back now, ya hear?

Those are the exact same reactions I got when I used to look at the Freshly Pressed selection. Good post 🙂

  3. This was great! “Tnanx” for sharing! Glad to see I’m not the only one who gets a kick out of those ridiculous spam comments. Actually, they make me quite angry. As does the zillion times I’ve been passed up by Freshly Pressed. I’ve given up the dream by now. Not even sure I deserve it anyway. Good luck to you, maybe one of us will live the dream someday!!

    • Thanks for the support. I think it used to be easier to be Freshly Pressed, but there are just so many bloggers now that we’d probably have a better chance of winning the lottery. And, I don’t think it really means that much any more. As long as we each have readers, that’s all that really matters, isn’t it?

I too am never Freshly Pressed. I’m not sure if that is a commentary on my blogging or my personal life but… whatever! I have to agree with you about OM, I could read his stuff all day.

Harshly pressed…that may always be me. Crappy dress and all. But see…the staff had a day off and picked a good one! Yours. Congrats…you’re the bride.

    • Well, now, that comment made me jump right onto the Reader sidebar to see if by some miracle I had been FP’d! Oh, well. But apparently I did hit a nerve – I’m not sure if that makes me the bride or the mother-of-the-bride! Great comment – made me think and react, which is always good for a blogger. Thank you.

Actually there is a committee… and I know a person who knows the body guard of the girlfriend who went to university with a committee member’s aunt.

This is awesome. To FP..Pfft. People I’ve read and followed get it and many times, their readership goes back to the numbers they had before it. It kind of makes me laugh, actually.
